Shortlisted for 2012 RICS AWARDS East of England
Barker Associates were recently shortlisted for two RICS Awards for their work at Tendring Technology College in the category of “Community Benefit” and St Mary The Virgin Church in the category of “Building Conservation”.

Tendring Technology College – New sixth form centre has been shortlisted in the category of “Community Benefit”.
The objective of the project was to provide a new, modern sixth form centre which provides state of the art media facilities and bright, welcoming education spaces.

The new sixth form centre for Tendring Technology College is a new stand alone facility built at the Frinton campus. The scheme has been funded by the Learning Skills Council and provides new classrooms, a lecture theatre, a media suite, drama studio and servery/café area.
St Mary The Virgin Church has been shortlisted in the category of “Building Conservation”.

This project involved the conservation of a Grade I Medieval Church Tower and Spire suffering masonry deterioration. Heritage Lottery Funding was awarded and the project was able to be delivered using a modern interpretation of a previous Victorian repair. The key difficulties for this project were managing extensive unforeseen timber repairs and obtaining Dioceseian approval.
