A new extension was recently opened at Pear Tree Mead Primary Academy at Harlow. Barker Associates provided architectural services working with Borras Construction.
The project provides additional accommodation for a half Form of Entry expansion to 420 pupils and includes the provision of 4 new classrooms, a new library and internal alterations. The design solution links the existing Infants and Junior Schools with a significant new extension with a fresh architectural language. The scheme therefore adds value by integrating the school so that all areas can be accessed internally and accommodation can be used more efficiently.
Barker Associates were appointed by Borras Construction to provide Architectural and Principal Designer services under the Smart East Design and Build procurement framework. The project was completed on time, within budget and has received praise from both the school and Essex County Council.
The Head teacher Mrs Peden noted, ‘Barker Associates’ team listened to our design brief and provided us with a solution that met all of our criteria. They worked round us as a school and made sure that the children’s learning was not affected. I have been extremely impressed with the whole process from beginning to end.’
