The Confederation of School Trusts (CST) and The Trust Network have been advocating hard on behalf of school trusts and is offering guidance and advice on operational issues surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic. The DfE has updated its guidance for schools

Regional Schools Commissioners decision-making in 2020

DfE has published a document setting out how the Regional Schools Commissioners will make decisions during academic year 2020/21, in the absence of any data from summer 2020 tests, assessments and exams.

Public Health Guidance to Support Autumn Exams

DfE has updated the Public health guidance to support autumn exams to include:

• setting out DfE expectation that schools and colleges will run autumn series exams, including where the school or college is only open for smaller student groups
• setting out DfE expectation that schools and colleges in areas of local restrictions will run exams
• explaining that candidates who have taken the minimum necessary assessments for their subject in the autumn series can apply for ‘special consideration’ and still be awarded a grade, even if they are not able to sit all of their exams, for instance due to self-isolation
• reminding schools and colleges of the need to continue to provide reasonable adjustments to support candidates with special educational needs and disabilities during the exam series

High needs - amended benchmarking tool

DfE has published an amended high needs benchmarking tool. This tool is intended to help local authorities to assess their own level of need, spend and pattern of provision against those of neighbouring local authorities (both geographically and statistically) and national trends. It may also be a useful tool for schools and trusts to support discussions with local authorities about their patterns of expenditure and future plans.
