Each year the Education and Skills Funding Agency announces a round of bidding for the Condition Improvement Fund. The 2019/20 round is due to be announced later this month.
Single Academies, small Multi Academy Trusts (with up to 5 Academies and less than 3000 students on the combined schools roll) and Sixth Form Colleges are eligible to apply for Condition Improvement Funding (CIF). Each Academy can apply for two bids per site in line with the published Funding Thresholds.
The core priority for CIF is to address significant condition need, keeping school buildings safe and in good working order. Priorities for each CIF round vary slightly and Guidance Notes are published when applications open. Generally, CIF supports projects that address compliance, safeguarding, health and safety issues, maintenance needs and suitability issues.
The Condition Improvement Fund is highly over-subscribed, only projects that demonstrate a high project need and value for money with those that align with CIF priorities are likely to be successful. In order to prepare high quality bids it is essential that Academies start this process as soon as possible.
