Barker Associates is delighted to announce St Michael and All Angels Church’s recent success in securing Heritage Lottery Funding (HLF) via the Grants for Places of Worship Scheme of an initial grant of £19,300 to repair the Church’s historic tower.
The grant will enable Barker Associates to assist the Parish in completing extensive investigations and develop a robust repair specification and in due course apply for Stage 2 funding of a further £220,900 to complete the repairs.
Built originally as a Chapel of Ease, St Michael and All Angels Church has been serving the community as a place of worship since the 14th century. The tower is the oldest and tallest building in Shefford. The scheme is to repair the failing spalling high level masonry to the Church Tower following the failure of previous 1980s repairs. Barker Associates is pleased to be part of this project and look forward to continuing the restoration works to preserve this historic building.
Please note - The HLF have announced major changes to their funding programmes and the Grants for Places of Worship’s final funding round is August 2017. Future applications will still be considered via HLF but not through a scheme dedicated to Places of Worship.
