This project, commissioned in 2014, will provide a distinctive, new, two-storey building for the school’s expanding sixth form to replace a decaying temporary building. It will create a social and learning hub, providing much needed space specifically designed for the students’ needs.
The new accommodation is contained in a new building linked to an existing gymnasium, which will be retained and remodelled, providing a large student social area at ground floor level with a new mezzanine floor providing administrative and teaching accommodation.
The new building is staggered in form, comprising two components with contrasting treatment to enhance the building’s identity: red brick for the projecting wing containing the entrance and grey rock-clad panelling, which will complement the elevational treatment of the existing buildings on the street frontage.
