Extension and refurbishment of existing school corridor to provide an open plan library, classroom space and upgrading WC facilities
Barker were commissioned to provide contract administration services and project management for a scheme to fully refurbish the existing school corridor and classroom area into an open plan library, new classroom space and existing pupil toilet refurbishment.
Barker's team provided a full structural detailed design to overcome significant design issues with the existing post war school building.
The refurbishment involved the creation of a new accessible toilet facility, new open plan classroom and new open plan library area along with significant structural alterations to deliver modern refurbished pupil toilet facilities. The structural works involved detailed design due to existing issues and deficiencies with the current building structure.
New steel supports and columns were used to provide the open plan area desired by the school creating a much more user friendly and modern pupil facility enhancing the pupils teaching space. The areas were further modernised with the use of full suspended ceilings and LED lighting providing cost savings to the schools energy consumption.
The refurbishment works also created much larger natural daylight openings to the classroom area, new interactive teaching wall facility, new low temperature radiators and a new fire exit door all improving the existing teaching environment.
The WC facilities were fully refurbished and structurally redesigned to provide a new configuration and a modern, safe facility for the pupils.
Adaptations were made to accommodate social distancing measures such as markings keeping in line with the requirements relating to Covid-19.
The works were completed within 7 weeks during the school summer break.
We are thrilled with the outcomes.
Your management of the project and your communication of progress and issues has been exactly what we asked of you.
