The 7-13th February marks this year’s National Apprenticeship Week!

Here at Barker, we are huge supporters of apprenticeship schemes as we believe the opportunities they present to young people are endless- is there really any bigger bonus than ‘earning whilst your learning’?!

We took aside one of our newest apprentices to ask him to give us an insight into his experience so far and how he is enjoying being a part of the ever-growing Barker team.

Introducing Alex Braby

Hi Alex! Can you please start by telling us a bit about your apprenticeship?
I’m currently in the first year of my five-year apprenticeship scheme with Barker, I am studying Building Surveying at Anglia Ruskin University. With my course I currently study two days per week at university, this leaves the remaining three days for me to gain experience from my team at Barker.

I find this hands-on experience essential to building my career as I can put what I learn at university into practice. My course is RICS accredited which allows me to gain my chartership following my end point assessment.

What made you choose Barker for your apprenticeship?
With such a reputable name, Barker was the clear choice for me. When searching for an apprenticeship Barker Associates stood out to me; being a multidisciplinary firm, I saw great potential for support throughout my apprenticeship.

This also allowed me to see beyond just Building Surveying should I want to take my career path down another route. Following my week’s work experience here, I knew this was the firm that would help my reach my career targets.
