Recruiting – Structural / Project Engineer

At Barker we currently have a vacancy within our structural and civil engineering team for a Project Engineer.  This is an exciting role based at our Head office in Braintree offering excellent career development opportunities.

As a Project Engineer you will be working on a range of civil and structural engineering projects from concept design through approvals to construction, preparing calculations and technical design information to deliver innovative civil and structural engineering solutions for both new-build and refurbishment projects.

Main Duties

  • Acting as/or liaising with the Project Engineer
  • Supervising & assisting CAD Technicians
  • Work closely on construction plans with clients, architects and other professionals
  • Develop design ideas using AutoCAD / Revit
  • Produce structural calculations in steel, concrete, timber and masonry
  • Carry out site inspections
  • Attend project meetings in house or on site

Ideally, we are looking for a candidate with at least 5 years’ post-graduation experience gained working on commercial, educational and residential developments. Also experience in reinforced concrete structures and drainage design would be desirable.

Academic & Professional Qualifications Requirements

  • Hold accredited MEng or BEng degree in civil or structural engineering
  • Be looking to become or be in the process of becoming Chartered
  • Associate-Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers would also be advantageous

Required Competencies 

  • Relevant industry experience, with a direct emphasis on buildings and structural/civil engineering
  • Experience of working with AutoCAD, BIM / REVIT / TEDDS / TEKLA
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage own workload within agreed time scales
  • Assist with general office duties when other staff require help
  • Be able to work effectively under pressure, to deadlines and as part of a team
  • Full UK driving license
  • Ability to represent the practice in a professional and friendly manner in a variety of circumstances
