We are thrilled to share the exciting news that we have been appointed as the Structural & Civil Engineers for Phase 1 of the Coventry City Centre South Development! This transformative project promises to reshape the heart of Coventry, creating a vibrant and dynamic urban hub.

The £450m redevelopment project is in the southern part of Coventry City Centre, covering 6.3 hectares of land. Development partners The Hill Group and Shearer Property Group instructed award-winning architects Allies & Morrison to complete the design and we are incredibly happy to now be leading on the Structural & Civil engineering.

The project is set to be delivered in phases, with the first phase set to begin in the late summer/early autumn 2024. Phase 1 will:

  • Create over 991 homes ranging from studio apartments to 3-bedroom homes which will cater to various tenures, including affordable housing, private sales and build-to-rent options.
  • Build over 8000 square meters of new commercial space, including a hotel, cinema, retail space providing exciting opportunities for businesses and services in the area.
  • Place a focus on enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike by providing a huge 17,000 square meters of public open space.
  • Enhance accessibility by introducing transport initiatives such as cycle parking, cycle hire docking stations, car club spaces and collaboration with the Coventry Very Light Railway. Plus, several new pedestrian-friendly routes which connect this development to many other areas of the city.

“We are extremely pleased to be appointed to deliver structural and civil engineering for the first phase of this project. It is a testament to our team’s technical capability, hard work and dedication, and we are very excited to contribute to such a significant development for Coventry.” Richard Paynter, Partner

Councillor Jim O’Boyle, cabinet member for jobs, regeneration and climate change said: “This is great news and another step in the right direction for the first phase of City Centre South. City Centres are changing and this development will create a new community in the city centre, including much-needed affordable and social homes.  This investment, led by the private sector will create a thriving, bustling new area with plenty of people living at the heart of it and supporting shops, restaurants and leisure attractions as well as creating jobs for local people.” (BBC, Dec 2023).
