We are excited to announce that we are now a member of WISE (Women into Science Engineering) and we are looking forward to further supporting women and future generations in STEM roles.
WISE was established in 1984, and their main aim is to encourage organisations to achieve gender parity for women in STEM from classroom to boardroom. WISE have over 40 years of experience working with numerous organisations across the STEM sector in their equity, diversity and inclusion journey. They offer women-centred support and provide knowledge and encouragement on how to advance policies, processes and culture within the workplace to improve gender equality.
They have been a key influence in increasing the number of women and girls in STEM roles. When WISE was founded, 7% of graduate engineers and 3% of professional engineers in the UK were women. There are now 22% female graduates in engineering and tech with 10.9% of professional engineers being female in the UK.
Barker joined WISE to further enhance the diversity within our workplace. Being in a primarily male industry we are excited to collaborate with WISE to create an allyship amongst all of our employees. We aim to break down the gender stereotypes in the industry by increasing our number of women in technical roles and in turn inspire and encourage young women to pursue a career in STEM. We see this as an amazing opportunity to diversify our workforce, creating a collaborative platform where a broad range of perspectives and experiences can be shared, regardless of gender.
