At a time when everyone wants to see a shift in energy management and is keen to take practical steps in addressing climate change, we at Barker have been proactively supporting our clients to achieve their decarbonisation goals.
Over the last three years Barker and EO Consulting have been leading the Government’s Net Zero agenda to schools and Trusts through our Energy 360 approach. This was accelerated by the Government’s £1bn PSDS funding for energy efficiency and decarbonisation projects announcement in September 2020. In response, over 50 of our education Trust clients requested support in surveys to gathering asset data across their estates to support grant fund applications.
This resulted in the rapid mobilisation of a large team of building surveyors and engineers to inspect our clients’ sites, capturing asset data on plant, building fabric etc.
The Barker Team successfully completed over 370 audits in less than three months.
Following completion of the data capture, the team then used our EO Portal data analytics to support the financial modelling to support capital bids for projects such as PV Panels and LED lighting. Of those we supported, 131 projects were approved, equating to approximately 30% of the funding allocated to the whole academy sector.
With funding secured, the Barker team set in motion the projects on various sites to ensure delivery by the March 2021 deadline.
Despite the challenges of tight timelines and Covid restrictions our team worked relentlessly during the course of the PSDS programme.
In securing nearly £10m in capital funding through the PSDS scheme, Barker have enabled our clients to hit many of their decarbonisation goals including reducing operational costs, generating major carbon savings and engaging with students on climate change. Crucially, this has enabled many trusts to embark on a long term energy efficiency programme using savings and data to facilitate future programmes of work.
