Barker is pleased to share the impressive results of recent energy-efficiency upgrades delivered at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School as part of the Great British Energy Solar Partnership (GBESP).
Last week, the school welcomed Josh MacAlister, Minister for Children, Families and Wellbeing, who visited to learn more about the impact of the GBESP programme overseen by LocatED.
As the consortium leading delivery, Barker has been responsible for implementing the energy-saving measures now in place across the site.
The team has installed a 36.75 kWp solar PV system alongside LED lighting upgrades and new EV charging infrastructure.
These improvements are projected to reduce electricity consumption by 36% and gas usage by 24%, generating combined annual savings of approximately £8,500 for the school.
Importantly, the works were supported through government grant funding, enabling the school to benefit without diverting resources away from teaching and learning.
Tom Deacon, Partner at Barker and GB Energy Solar Partnership Programme Lead, said,
“We are delighted to see these initial solar arrays, and LED installed, operating and delivering savings that enable St Joseph’s School to deliver better outcomes for their students.”
Pupils and staff also showcased their wider sustainability initiatives during the visit, demonstrating the school’s commitment to environmental responsibility and ongoing behavioural change.
We are proud to support schools like St Joseph’s in improving energy performance, lowering their carbon footprint, and creating more sustainable, cost-efficient learning environments.
Our experience and vision have shaped hundreds of projects across sectors, from energy and funding to architecture and design, helping bring ideas to life.
