Hendon School’s mission was to significantly reduce energy costs by adopting renewable solar energy solutions. By integrating solar power into their energy strategy, the school aimed to not only lower their utility expenses but also contribute to environmental sustainability. This initiative reflects Hendon School’s commitment to innovative and eco-friendly practices, ensuring a greener future for their community.
Barker managed the project through stages 1-5: Initial Desktop Assessment, Feasibility & Investment Grade Proposal, Procurement & Contract Award, and Array Performance Monitoring. Barker’s comprehensive project management services facilitated the development, procurement, and high-standard installation of a viable PV design, addressing the client’s needs.
The installation faced challenges due to the roof conditions. Larger roof areas were unsuitable for PV installation because of Stramit board, requiring the team to adapt the design while still achieving the necessary output capacity.
Barker installed a 199.5 kWp solar PV system, consisting of 4 inverters and 380 PV panels, which collectively produce 169.25 MWh of renewable energy annually. To ensure the longevity of the array, roof maintenance was included within the scope of works. Additionally, Hendon School can now monitor real-time PV performance through the Solar Edge Monitoring system, allowing for efficient and effective energy management.
