Amplify Education, formerly Cathedral Schools Trust, is a multi-academy trust that has been working towards reducing gas consumption across its schools. Using Barker’s EO Portal, it has delivered considerable energy reductions.
The trust appointed Barker for our specialist expertise in education energy data management and the ability to turn complex metering information into clear, actionable insights.
We retrieved and consolidated consumption data across all its schools and presented it in EO Portal’s energy dashboard, enabling the trust to easily monitor usage trends, compare performance, and make more informed decisions about energy efficiency.
To address the trust’s need for accurate energy insight, we upgraded meters across the estate and enabled live half-hourly consumption monitoring.
We also recovered several years of historic usage data to build a comprehensive consumption profile for the entire trust. With this enhanced dataset, they were able to pinpoint schools with high gas dependency and implement targeted behaviour change initiatives.
The intelligence gained also supported investment decisions, including the installation of new high-efficiency boiler systems and thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs), giving Amplify Education far greater control over energy demand.
As a result of the measures implemented, the trust achieved a substantial reduction in gas consumption across its estate:
Together, we are exploring further opportunities for efficiency optimisation that are still available.
The trust continues to rely on the EO Portal for real-time monitoring of its consumption patterns. In addition, Barker provides monthly performance reports that highlight any emerging issues or behavioural changes.
“The new energy reports are a helpful snapshot to encourage school staff to investigate deeper. It is a great doorway for people when they are pushed for time.”
