We’re pleased to confirm that planning permission has been approved for the demolition and rebuild of the Sports Hall at Dame Alice Owen’s School, which is a major step in enhancing the school’s facilities for both students and the wider community.
Works are scheduled to commence in September 2025, with completion expected by Autumn 2026.
Barker has worked closely with the school, building on our previous work delivering their teaching block, to carrying out a detailed feasibility study and identifying the best route forward.
The approved scheme retains the core structure of the original hall while replacing outdated ancillary spaces with modern, inclusive, and accessible facilities. Key improvements include:
The project presented several challenges, including a constrained site within the Green Belt and the need to coordinate with existing adjacent buildings and facilities.
