The project
Dame Alice Owen’s is an award winning state school with a strong local reputation in Potter’s Bar, Hertfordshire. The school required a replacement teaching block that matched their educational achievements and their vision.
The Brief
The school required support to secure funding for a project to provide a new 18 classroom, 3-storey general teaching building to replace the existing 1970s general education building that had reached the end of its serviceable life.
The Solution
Using our experience of government funding applications and our bid-writing expertise, Barker helped the school to secure £3.3 million from the Department of Education’s CIF scheme. Barker led the school design and project team, working closely with the school to translate their brief into a project that met their functional, aesthetic and sustainability objectives. The project delivery was managed within a strictly controlled budget and programme.
The Outcome
The new block has been received very positively by both staff and students, who are enjoying teaching and learning in a spacious, modern and inspiring environment. The project was completed swiftly on schedule and within budget.
