Stuart joined Barker Associates in 1996 and has been Managing Partner since 2007. He is responsible for leading the management team to ensure the efficient operation and growth of the practice.
An education specialist, Stuart helps identify needs, secure funding and deliver construction projects for schools, academies, further and higher education establishments. He also specialises in providing strategic advice to Multi Academy Trusts on estates and facilities management. His expertise in this area was recognised when Barker Associates won the Premises and Facilities Management award for Partners in Consultancy in 2015.
Chris Barker founded Barker Associates in 1987 following a career in local government. The practice is now recognised by Building Magazine as one of the Top 100 consultancies in the UK. Chris has over forty years’ experience in building surveying across all core disciplines and sectors and now works as a consultant to the Practice.
As a certified historic buildings professional he provides conservation consultancy for private and municipal clients, advises on conservation strategies and works to listed and historic buildings.
As a member of Ecclesiastical Architects & Surveyors Association (EASA) he gives advice to ecclesiastical clients and diocesan bodies on repair, maintenance and alteration to church buildings as well as assisting with applications for grant funding.
Robert joined Barker Associates in 2002 and is a partner heading up our projects and conservation teams. A Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, he is responsible for design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial, ecclesiastical and private clients.
An education specialist, he provides the following services: estate planning, planned maintenance programmes, feasibility studies, project management of new build and refurbishment schemes, condition surveys, and funding applications.
As a certified historic buildings professional he provides conservation consultancy for private and municipal clients, advises on conservation strategies and designs, specifies and implements works on listed and historic buildings.
Robert also has experience in management of insurance-backed reinstatement works and disaster recovery. He is a health and safety advisor and principal designer under the CDM Regulations.
Michael joined Barker Associates in 1998, achieving partner status in 2010. He manages a team of surveyors heading up a key part of our educational sector as well as wider management duties across the practice.
An experienced chartered surveyor, Michael has a hands-on role in the design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial and private clients.
With the majority of his professional life spent working in the education sector Michael is an education specialist delivering projects from inception to completion including: feasibility/development planning, identifying funding streams, bid writing, project management of new build and refurbishment schemes and condition surveys/works.
Richard is a partner at Barker Associates and leads the architecture department. He is dual qualified as a chartered architect and professionally certified project manager with over twenty-five years’ experience in the public and private sectors.
A diverse portfolio of completed projects includes new school buildings, visitor centres, courthouses, commercial offices and a variety of residential and mixed use projects both in the UK and overseas. Richard led the development and managed Staffordshire County Council’s first strategic construction partnership after several years leading an architectural team and has a broad knowledge of construction procurement.
Will joined Barker Associates in 2003 and is a partner heading up the project management, cost consultancy and commercial team. Will became a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2000 and has over twenty years’ relevant experience across all sectors of the construction industry. He is responsible for overseeing project management on all major schemes.
Previous project management experience includes major medical facilities, university buildings in Cambridge, aircraft facilities and extensive experience in educational buildings.
Will works with a cross section of clients from private individuals through to development companies and commercial organisations to provide project management services on new developments and opportunities.
Will is a principal designer under the CDM regulations and provides guidance and support for colleagues regarding health and safety on projects.
Stephen qualified as a chartered surveyor in 1997 and joined Barker Associates in 2002. As a partner, he now leads the survey team.
Having commenced his career in design and contract administration, across a variety of sectors, Stephen has focused in recent years on surveying, reporting and expert services.
Due to the broad base of work conducted within Barker Associates, Stephen offers a very wide range of professional services, across many sectors. Residential services include valuations, building surveys and homebuyers reports. Commercial services include pre-acquisition surveys, schedules of dilapidations, schedules of condition and general landlord/ tenant services.
Stephen has a wide experience in condition surveying of schools, residential blocks and other estate building types, designing reports in various formats to suit client needs in maintenance/ repair forecasting and asset management.
As with other areas of the practice, Stephen has expertise in the field of conservation, regularly reporting on listed country houses and other historic property.
John joined Barker Associates in 2016 as a Partner and is responsible for a variety of Projects and Delivery, Client Development, Framework Management, Staff Management and Strategic Planning for the Practice.
A Chartered Building Surveyor and Construction Manager with over 25 years’ experience in the Professional Construction Consultancy Sector, John works across sectors specialising in Education, Residential, Leisure and Corporate Municipal Buildings.
With specialist knowledge of the Public and Education Sectors John brings a wealth of Technical and Strategic Advisory experience to the Practice offering the following services; Building Surveying, Design and Specification, Project Management, Programme Management, Building Defect Analysis, Business Development and Account Management.
John has also undertaken Programme and Budget Management for key Clients in relation to their portfolio of Assets ranging from planned maintenance strategies through to advising on the delivery and funding of new facilities.
James joined Barker Associates in 2004 and is a chartered surveyor in the projects team. James specialises in design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial and private clients. James has specific expertise in securing funding and the delivery of education projects, he also has NEBOSH training as a Fire Risk Assessor.
Colin joined Barker Associates in 2018 adding Structural Engineering services to our 'in-house' practice disciplines. Colin has been appointed as an Associate Partner to provide and develop Structural Engineering services. Colin previously worked as a consultant engineer to the industry including Barker Associates. Colin has over 30 years of experience on projects in the Commercial and Education sectors providing a wide range of engineering solutions on new build and remodeling projects.
Daniel joined Barker Associates in 2011. Daniel is an Associate Partner and a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in the projects team. With nineteen years’ experience in the construction industry, Daniel specialises in providing cost consultancy for public sector, education and commercial clients across a wide range of new build and refurbishment projects.
Elizabeth is a qualified chartered architect and has over 16 years experience. She has worked across a wide range of sectors including large scale residential and mixed use developments, commercial fit-out, schools and hotels both in the UK and overseas. Passionate about good design detailing and with strong construction knowledge, Elizabeth enjoys the strategic planning of projects to ensure a successful outcome.
Aaron is a Chartered Surveyor and joined the practice in 2012; he has a wealth of experience in various fields. As well as carrying out building surveys, condition surveys etc. he also has NEBOSH training as a Fire Risk Assessor, and is training to become an NRAC Auditor for Accessibility Auditing of property in accordance with equality legislation. Aaron has recently developed services within the field of Estates Management, assisting companies in improvement and management of their portfolios, utilising his Contract Administration skills.
Christopher joined Barker Associates in 2010 and is a chartered surveyor in the projects team. He specialises in contract administration and project management of refurbishment, extension and new-build construction projects. Christopher has specific expertise in the delivery of education framework projects and also in bid writing and securing funding for educational clients.
Philippa joined Barker Associates in 2009 and is a chartered surveyor and certified historic building professional. Philippa specialises in design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial, ecclesiastical and private clients.
Adrian joined Barker Associates in 2017 and is a senior surveyor in the projects team. Adrian specialises in contract administration and project management. His extensive experience covers a range of public sector projects including schools, universities, constabulary and fire and rescue services.
Calum is a trainee building surveyor in the projects team. He provides technical assistance to senior members of staff delivering construction projects and professional surveying work. Calum is studying Building Surveying at Anglia Ruskin University and Barker Associates is supporting his training towards chartered status.
Colin joined Barker Associates in 2017 as Senior Architectural Technologist. With over twenty years of experience, Colin assists with design development and close client consultation across a range of educational and residential projects. He specialises in BIM, Project Management, Contract Administration, Detailed Design, AutoCAD and Revit.
Craig is an enthusiastic and talented architectural designer with a strong track record of successfully completed projects in the education and residential sectors. In-depth exploration of design options and attention to detail are brought to all projects in close consultation with clients and design teams.
Dawn joined Barker Associates in 2010 and is a secretary in the administration team. As the first port of call for clients, she deals with incoming telephone enquiries and visitors. Dawn is responsible for managing office supplies and executes clerical duties for colleagues.
Donna joined Barker Associates in 1999 and is the practice manager. Donna manages the day-to-day operations of the practice ensuring quality and compliance is rigorously maintained. She manages the administration team as well as personnel, health & safety and all applicable regulations.
Emma joined Barker Associates in 2010 and is personal assistant to the partners. Emma provides vital administrative support to the business as well as diary management for the partners. Emma is also experienced in architectural support, assisting with planning and building regulations applications.
Geoff was one of Barker Associates’ founding partners in 1987 and has over thirty years’ experience in all core building surveying services. His career commenced in municipal design and contract administration within a local authority setting. Geoff now conducts professional services across all sectors within the survey team with expertise in party wall and boundary matters. Geoff regularly acts as an expert witness for litigation purposes.
Graham is a chartered architect with over thirty years’ experience in the public and private sectors. He joined Barker Associates in 2016 and delivers our planned maintenance & compliance service to education clients. Graham has a strong technical and design background enabling him to advise on maintenance strategy, expansion, alteration and development of building stock.
Guy joined Barker Associates in 2017 as a building surveyor in the projects team. With 10 years’ experience across social housing, commercial and retail sectors Guy’s expertise ranges from delivering maintenance lifecycle estimates, stock condition surveys, reinstatement and planned maintenance project works from inception to completion. Guy’s experience also includes small scale project management services and refurbishment works for retail outlets, assisting with project fund monitoring, acquisition surveys and delivery of dilapidation surveys.
James joined Barker Associates in 2016 as a surveyor in the projects team following a career in private practice delivering large multi-disciplinary public sector frameworks. James has experience in contract administration and project management across a variety of sectors.
James joined Barker Associates in 2007 and is a chartered surveyor in the projects team. James specialises in contract administration and project management of refurbishment, extension and new build projects. Other specialisms include specific training in fire risk surveying and educational funding bid writing.
Juan is a registered Architect who through the years has developed a particular interest in conservation projects. He has extensive experience working on residential, conservation, urban design and community projects through all RIBA stages. He is involved in all aspects of design, technical detailing and presentation. His technical knowledge and detailing skills are valuable assets to the team.
Karl joined Barker Associates in 2018 as a Senior Building Surveyor. Karl has over 10 years of experience working within the Education, Health and Housing sectors providing full Building Surveys, Project Management and Contract Administration services as well as managing various budgets and programmes of work on a wide range of projects. Karl also undertakes Party Wall Advisory services and Dilapidations services offering sound professional advice to clients and assists across various project works.
Keeley joined Barker Associates at our Braintree offices in 2016 and is a secretary in the administration team. As one of our first port of calls for clients, she deals with incoming telephone enquiries and visitors.
Kirstene joined Barker Associates in 2003 and is PA to the Managing Partner. Additionally she provides dedicated liaison with our largest education clients and provides IT and administrative support to the team.
Lana joined Barker Associates in 2017 and is the finance manager. She is responsible for accounts management and credit control. Additionally, Lana provides financial advice and support to colleagues to enable them to make sound business decisions.
Margaret joined Barker Associates in 2000 and is a secretary in the survey department. Margaret processes survey enquiries, quotations and bookings. She uses her excellent audio typing skills to prepare survey reports and assists with other clerical duties across the practice.
Martin joined Barker Associates in 2016 and is a senior surveyor in the projects team. With 23 years’ experience in surveying and facilities management, Martin specialises in design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial and private clients.
Neil joined Barker Associates in 2017 and is a Senior Surveyor in the projects team. With over 25 years of experience in Building Surveying, Neil specialises in design, project management and contract administration for refurbishment and new build schemes for public sector, education, commercial and private clients.
Noor joined Barker Associates in 2015 and is in charge of marketing and business development. Noor initiates and builds customer interest by regularly maintaining the practice's profile and presence both within the community and online. She is also responsible for identifying new business opportunities to expand the practice to make it more profitable whilst ensuring engagement with the local community.
Patrycja has a degree in Interior Architecture and Design. She specialises in creating bespoke solutions to achieve the right atmosphere and branding for each project, using AutoCAD, Photoshop and SketchUp to produce two and three dimensional work to clearly communicate design proposals.
Rick is a very experienced architect with an extensive portfolio of work covering a broad range of public and private sector commissions, including schools, libraries, residential development, business units, hotels, heritage projects, master planning and even a climbing barn. His education portfolio includes a number of successful PFI secondary school projects, his design for The Lammas School in Leyton being featured in Building Bulletin 95 Schools for the Future.
Sami is a trainee quantity surveyor in the projects team. He provides technical assistance to senior members of staff delivering projects and professional surveying work. Sami is studying Quantity Surveying at Nottingham Trent University and Barker Associates support his training towards his degree qualification.
Scott joined Barker Associates in 2015 and is a trainee building surveyor in the projects team. He provides technical assistance to senior members of staff delivering construction projects and professional surveying work. Scott is studying building surveying at Anglia Ruskin University and Barker Associates is supporting his training towards chartered status.
Sharon joined Barker Associates in 2016 and is personal assistant to the Partners. Sharon provides vital administrative support to the business as well as diary management for the partners.
Stephen joined Barker Associates in 2017 and is a Senior Quantity Surveyor in the projects team. With over 30 years of experience Stephen specialises in providing cost planning, procurement, final account negotiation and employer’s agent services for ecclesiastical, education and commercial clients.
Stephen joined Barker Associates in April 2018 and is fulfilling a dual role of Quantity Surveyor/Building Surveyor in the Building Surveying Project Team. Stephen has experience within the Housing and Public Sectors, with particular focus on Framework, Measured Term and Serial Contracts on large Housing Refurbishment Schemes. He is currently working across the Building Surveying and Quantity Surveying departments assisting on a variety of commissions and projects for Education and Commercial clients.
Stephen has over thirty years’ experience in architectural practice with an extensive portfolio of education and community based projects including competition-winning designs for International School of Uganda and a new community centre in Cambridge. Stephen’s strengths also include expertise in conservation design and he is listed on the RIBA’s Conservation Register.
Thomas joined Barker Associates in 2018 as a Quantity Surveyor in the Projects team. Thomas specialises in cost reporting, valuation and procurement matters for commercial, education and local authority clients. Thomas is currently studying to become a Chartered member of the RICS.
Thomas is a surveyor in the projects team. Thomas specialises in maintenance projects of residential buildings and educational establishments acting as contract administrator and principle designer. He also assists with access audits and fire risk assessments along with various other maintenance based surveys. Thomas is currently studying for his RICS Chartership.
Thomas joined Barker Associates in 2014 from a large housing association, with long experience in the field of social housing. Tom has expertise in contract administration and, acting within the Survey Team, conducts condition surveys across all building types and also specialises in defects analysis reports.
Zuleika joined Barker Associates in 2017 and is the Architectural Team Administrator. Utilising a wealth of experience in operations and finance, Zuleika provides vital administrative support to the architectural team. She also assists with planning and building regulations applications and manages client and consultant fee accounts.
