Overview

Supporting the developer, L&Q housing association and Greater London Authority, Barker provided Structural and Civil Engineering services, from planning through to detailed design for the proposed regeneration at Beam Park, Dagenham.

Based at the former Ford Dagenham site, this challenging brownfield site, located within Flood Zone 3, has required surcharging, contamination remediation, and flood management for 50,000 cu.m of fluvial flooding.

The resulting development will form a community of 3000 new homes (with a 50% affordable home rate), a new railway station, two new schools, a medical centre, commercial and leisure facilities and public realm space, which includes a new three-hectare parkland in the centre of the development.

A central element of the design approach has been the integration of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) within the wider fluvial context of the site.

Planning approval for Phase B has now been granted, enabling Barker to continue with this long-term engineering engagement. Learn more about this phase here.
