This project involved the refurbishment and fit-out of a childcare/community facility, together with associated external improvement works, to provide a fully functional, safe, and modern environment for users through upgrades to the internal accommodation and enhancement of the external play areas. The works were undertaken while ensuring compliance with relevant building regulations, health and safety requirements, and client design specifications.
The internal refurbishment included a complete fit-out of the facility, including new floors, suspended ceilings, lighting, WCs and sanitaryware. Externally, Barker was to install an artificial grass play area, safety surfacing to designated play zones, upgraded perimeter fencing, and general landscaping works.
Several variations and additional works were identified during the construction phase, requiring close coordination between the contractor, client, and project team. Careful management of these changes was necessary to minimise disruption and maintain programme delivery.
The project team successfully managed these variations while maintaining quality standards and achieving the desired result.
Following a final site inspection, the project was confirmed as having achieved Practical Completion.
Key outcomes included the delivery of a fully operational facility and completion of all primary construction and fit-out works, resulting in an iproved user experience through upgraded internal environments and enhanced external play facilities and safety provisions.
Barker achieved a high standard of workmanship throughout the project and there were no outstanding items preventing beneficial occupation.
Through effective collaboration between all project stakeholders, the refurbishment and external improvement works were completed to a high standard, providing a safe, modern, and fully operational facility ready for immediate occupation and use.
