Barker was appointed by the Rebel Construction Ltd to provide architectural and interior design services, Principal Designer (Building Regulations) services, and M&E consultancy through the concept and developed design, technical design and construction stages.
The project originated from the need to replace ageing mechanical services, creating an opportunity to improve the quality, functionality, and overall appearance of the office accommodation.
The primary objective was to replace the existing mechanical equipment while creating a more efficient and contemporary working environment. This included reconfiguring the office layouts to improve functionality and maximise the use of space. The project also provided an opportunity to refurbish the executive annexe, comprising the CEO’s office, boardroom and reception area.
Key enhancements included the introduction of contemporary LED lighting, bespoke joinery and furniture solutions, and a high quality interior finish throughout.
The refurbishment was undertaken within an occupied office building, requiring the business to remain operational throughout the construction period. To minimise disruption, the works were delivered in carefully planned phases, allowing different areas to remain in use while refurbishment progressed. Close coordination between the architectural and M&E design teams, contractor and client ensured new building services could be integrated seamlessly alongside the reconfigured layouts, enabling the project to be delivered safely
and efficiently with minimal impact on day to day operations.
New mechanical systems have improved reliability and comfort, while upgraded layouts and finishes have enhanced the overall user experience throughout the building. The transformed reception, boardroom and executive spaces now present a contemporary and professional image for both staff and visitors.
Through careful phasing, technical coordination and design-led thinking, Barker successfully delivered a refurbishment that combined essential infrastructure upgrades with meaningful improvements to the workplace environment.
