  • Sector: Education
  • Services: Building Surveying, Contract Management, Principal Designer

OVERVIEW

Leigh Academies Trust needed to replace inefficient and outdated single-glazed crittall windows in The Halley Academy school building. As it was a Listed Building, obtaining Listed Building Consent from the relevant Local Authority was necessary.

THE BRIEF

Leigh Academies Trust selected Barker for their expertise in managing complex heritage projects and their proven track record in delivering high-quality building improvements. The project involved replacing inefficient single-glazed metal-framed crittall windows and doors with modern double-glazed aluminium-framed alternatives. Barker managed all applications to the Local Planning Authority and Building Control, developed detailed specifications, oversaw the tendering process, and administered the contract. Their comprehensive approach ensured the project enhanced the building’s energy efficiency and functionality while preserving its historical integrity.

THE CHALLENGE

The primary challenge was to satisfy the planning authority’s requirements for the Listed Building aspect of the project while also meeting the client’s expectations. This necessitated effective communication with all parties involved.

THE OUTCOME

The new windows and doors offer a modern appearance, high durability, and significantly improved energy efficiency. These energy-efficient installations will reduce heat loss from the building, resulting in substantial energy savings.

Client Testimonal

”We are delighted with the new windows and doors at The Halley Academy. They have significantly improved the building’s aesthetics and energy efficiency, resulting in cost savings and a more comfortable environment for our students and staff. Barker Associates expertly managed the entire project, from obtaining necessary planning approvals and listed building consent to minimising disruptions during installation.”
