The project was to provide additional accommodation for a half Form of Entry expansion to 420 pupils at St. Andrews Primary School. This involved the provision of 4 new classrooms, re-modelling of 1 classroom, expansion of the school hall and other internal alterations. The design solution build on the planning arrangements of the existing school and provided a significant new extension with a fresh architectural language. New classrooms were naturally lighted and ventilated with a mixed mode ventilation system and high level clerestory windows creating light and airy spaces suitable for a modern learning environment. Barker Associates worked closely with the school, Essex County education advisors and the Main Contactor, Borras Construction, in delivering this very successful project.
