Overview

Preston Manor School suffered a fire to the school’s main reception, offices and corridor space at the start of 2023. It was of paramount importance to ensure the site was quickly and safely up and running for students and staff. Barker were instructed to undertake temporary works as well as the reinstatement of all fire damaged areas.

The Brief

Barker worked with McLaren’s, a loss adjustment company, to agree the projects scope, from this the fire damage reinstatement works were competitively tendered and the project commenced at the end of June 2023 seeing completion in October 2023.

The Solution

In order to restore the fire damaged areas at Preston Manor School, Barker stripped out and replaced existing fire damaged and failed elements, including:

  • Partitions
  • Suspended ceilings
  • Rooflights
  • Internal and external doors
  • Windows
  • Floor/wall finishes (including sanding and re-sealing the existing parquet flooring)
  • Radiators
  • Lighting
  • Security/fire alarm systems
  • Fixtures and fittings (bench seating, desks, storage space)

The Outcome

The client, staff and students were extremely pleased with the outcome of the project. Barker worked quickly and efficiently to resolve the issues Preston Manor had experienced, enabling the day to day running of the school to resume as quickly as possible.
