Redwing House – Office Refurbishment
Chelmsford, Essex
The I-Construct Innovation Hub is conceived as a centre of excellence for construction innovation within the East of England and forms part of the BRE’s innovation network.
The scheme comprised conferencing facilities, a technology lab, café, exhibition space and networking facilities to bring together the local construction industry in exploring innovative and modern methods of construction. Barker was appointed as part of a team to develop the scheme from an existing Stage 2 concept design.
The project had challenging sustainability requirements. It had to achieve a BREEAM rating of Very Good as a minimum and the construction methodology needed to demonstrate innovation at all stages.
Barker positively contributed to the project innovation by utilising a BIM environment in which architecture, structure and mechanical and electrical engineering were modelled and co-ordinated. Our sustainability team advised on how best to achieve the BREEAM accreditation, using best practice and a pragmatic approach.
