Overview
Barker was tasked with the reinstatement of an important Grade II listed Essex timber-framed house following a serious fire.
The Challenges
Barker provided early-stage advice on building safety and disaster recovery to stabilise the building and mitigate the effects of the fire. The project required continual balancing of conservation principles with modern design requirements, all within a closely monitored cost environment.
The Outcome
Barker provided full design and project management throughout, liaising with the property owner, insurance company, loss adjuster and contractor to ensure a successful outcome. Careful consideration was given to the repair and restoration of the building’s ornate timber panelling and other historic features. New insulation and other features were installed to improve the sustainability of the building where possible.
This important building has been preserved, restored and enhanced following this significant fire ensuring its long-term viability as a family home.
“Thank you for your foresight in this project and ensuring that it was finished to such a high standard.”
