Stuart joined Barker Associates in 1996 and has been Managing Partner since 2007. He is responsible for leading the management team to ensure the efficient operation and growth of the practice.
An education specialist, Stuart helps identify needs, secure funding and deliver construction projects for schools, academies, further and higher education establishments. He also specialises in providing strategic advice to Multi Academy Trusts on estates and facilities management. His expertise in this area was recognised when Barker Associates won the Premises and Facilities Management award for Partners in Consultancy in 2015.
Robert joined Barker Associates in 2002 and is a partner heading up our projects and conservation teams. A Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, he is responsible for design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial, ecclesiastical and private clients.
An education specialist, he provides the following services: estate planning, planned maintenance programmes, feasibility studies, project management of new build and refurbishment schemes, condition surveys, and funding applications.
As a certified historic buildings professional he provides conservation consultancy for private and municipal clients, advises on conservation strategies and designs, specifies and implements works on listed and historic buildings.
Robert also has experience in management of insurance-backed reinstatement works and disaster recovery. He is a health and safety advisor and principal designer under the CDM Regulations.
Michael joined Barker Associates in 1998, achieving partner status in 2010. He manages a team of surveyors heading up a key part of our educational sector as well as wider management duties across the practice.
An experienced chartered surveyor, Michael has a hands-on role in the design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial and private clients.
With the majority of his professional life spent working in the education sector Michael is an education specialist delivering projects from inception to completion including: feasibility/development planning, identifying funding streams, bid writing, project management of new build and refurbishment schemes and condition surveys/works.
Richard is a partner at Barker Associates and leads the architecture department. He is dual qualified as a chartered architect and professionally certified project manager with over twenty-five years’ experience in the public and private sectors.
A diverse portfolio of completed projects includes new school buildings, visitor centres, courthouses, commercial offices and a variety of residential and mixed use projects both in the UK and overseas. Richard led the development and managed Staffordshire County Council’s first strategic construction partnership after several years leading an architectural team and has a broad knowledge of construction procurement.
Will joined Barker Associates in 2003 and is a partner heading up the project management, cost consultancy and commercial team. Will became a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2000 and has over twenty years’ relevant experience across all sectors of the construction industry. He is responsible for overseeing project management on all major schemes.
Previous project management experience includes major medical facilities, university buildings in Cambridge, aircraft facilities and extensive experience in educational buildings.
Will works with a cross section of clients from private individuals through to development companies and commercial organisations to provide project management services on new developments and opportunities.
Will is a principal designer under the CDM regulations and provides guidance and support for colleagues regarding health and safety on projects.
Stephen qualified as a chartered surveyor in 1997 and joined Barker Associates in 2002. As an Associate Partner, he now leads the survey team.
Having commenced his career in design and contract administration, across a variety of sectors, Stephen has focused in recent years on surveying, reporting and expert services.
Due to the broad base of work conducted within Barker Associates, Stephen offers a very wide range of professional services, across many sectors. Residential services include valuations, building surveys and homebuyers reports. Commercial services include pre-acquisition surveys, schedules of dilapidations, schedules of condition and general landlord/ tenant services.
Stephen has a wide experience in condition surveying of schools, residential blocks and other estate building types, designing reports in various formats to suit client needs in maintenance/ repair forecasting and asset management.
As with other areas of the practice, Stephen has expertise in the field of conservation, regularly reporting on listed country houses and other historic property.
John joined Barker Associates in 2016, he is an Associate Partner and is responsible for a variety of Projects and Delivery, Client Development, Framework Management, Staff Management and Strategic Planning for the Practice.
A Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and Construction Manager with over 25 years’ experience in the Professional Construction Consultancy Sector, John works across sectors specialising in Education, Residential, Leisure and Corporate Municipal Buildings.
With specialist knowledge of the Public and Education Sectors John brings a wealth of Technical and Strategic Advisory experience to the Practice offering the following services; Building Surveying, Design and Specification, Project Management, Programme Management, Building Defect Analysis, Business Development and Account Management.
John has also undertaken Programme and Budget Management for key Clients in relation to their portfolio of Assets ranging from planned maintenance strategies through to advising on the delivery and funding of new facilities.
Aaron is a Chartered Surveyor and joined the practice in 2012; he has a wealth of experience in various fields. As well as carrying out building surveys, condition surveys etc. he also has NEBOSH training as a Fire Risk Assessor, and is training to become an NRAC Auditor for Accessibility Auditing of property in accordance with equality legislation. Aaron has recently developed services within the field of Estates Management, assisting companies in improvement and management of their portfolios, utilising his Contract Administration skills.
Daniel joined Barker Associates in 2011. Daniel is an Associate Partner and a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in the projects team. With nineteen years’ experience in the construction industry, Daniel specialises in providing cost consultancy for public sector, education and commercial clients across a wide range of new build and refurbishment projects.
Edwin joined Barker Associates as a Senior Project Manager with over 10 years experience with London based major eductaion, residential and leisure developments.
Edwin offers a sustainability expertise to Barker Associates as a qualified BREEAM Accredited Professional with consultancy experience in providing sustainability advice for achieving enhanced London Plan carbon reduction and sustainability targets as well as addressing environmental issues associated with urban development sites.
Elizabeth is a qualified chartered architect and has over 16 years experience. She has worked across a wide range of sectors including large scale residential and mixed use developments, commercial fit-out, schools and hotels both in the UK and overseas. Passionate about good design detailing and with strong construction knowledge, Elizabeth enjoys the strategic planning of projects to ensure a successful outcome.
James joined Barker Associates in 2004 and is a chartered surveyor in the projects team. James specialises in design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial and private clients. James has specific expertise in securing funding and the delivery of education projects, he also has NEBOSH training as a Fire Risk Assessor.

Dan is an engineer and construction manager and heads up our Birmingham Office. He spent the eight years prior to joining Barker Associates managing the Building Schools for the Future (BSF), Additional Pupil Places (APP) and Special School Additional Places (SSAP) capital delivery programmes for Birmingham City Council and has and in-depth knowledge of estate planning in the education sector. He is knowledgeable on funding streams and bid management and has built and managed multi-disciplinary consultancy teams for large scale programmes. An accomplished project and programme manager, he has overseen complex construction projects across multiple sectors on both client and contractor sides.
Daniel joined Barker Associates in 2019. Daniel has been appointed as an Associate to provide and develop Structural Engineering services. Daniel has over 22 years of experience on projects in the Residential, Commercial and Education sectors providing a wide range of engineering solutions on new build, refurbishment and remodelling projects.
Adam is a surveyor in the projects team. Adam specialises in maintenance projects of residential buildings and educational establishments acting as contract administrator and principal designer. He also assists with access audits and fire assessments along with various other maintenance based surveys. Adam is currently studying for his RICS chartership.
Adam joined Barker Associates as a graduate Building Surveyor in 2019. He specialises in Condition Surveys, Schedules of Condition and various other core surveying services across residential, educational and commercial sectors. Adam is working towards his RICS chartership.
Adrian joined Barker Associates in 2017 and is a senior surveyor in the projects team. Adrian specialises in contract administration and project management. His extensive experience covers a range of public sector projects including schools, universities, constabulary and fire and rescue services.
Colin joined Barker Associates in 2017 as Senior Architectural Technologist. With over twenty years of experience, Colin assists with design development and close client consultation across a range of educational and residential projects. He specialises in BIM, Project Management, Contract Administration, Detailed Design, AutoCAD and Revit.
Geoff was one of Barker Associates’ founding partners in 1987 and has over thirty years’ experience in all core building surveying services. His career commenced in municipal design and contract administration within a local authority setting. Geoff now conducts professional services across all sectors within the survey team with expertise in party wall and boundary matters. Geoff regularly acts as an expert witness for litigation purposes.
Graham joined Barker Associates in 2018 as Senior Structural CAD Technician. He has over 35 years' experience in the Structural and Civil Engineering industry, working across a diverse range of projects. Graham assists our Associate Partner l Structural Engineer in the preparation of G.A, R.C and detail drawings to Tender and Construction stages.
Guy joined Barker Associates in 2017 as a building surveyor in the projects team. With 10 years’ experience across social housing, commercial and retail sectors Guy’s expertise ranges from delivering maintenance lifecycle estimates, stock condition surveys, reinstatement and planned maintenance project works from inception to completion. Guy’s experience also includes small scale project management services and refurbishment works for retail outlets, assisting with project fund monitoring, acquisition surveys and delivery of dilapidation surveys.
Juan is a registered Architect who through the years has developed a particular interest in conservation projects. He has extensive experience working on residential, conservation, urban design and community projects through all RIBA stages. He is involved in all aspects of design, technical detailing and presentation. His technical knowledge and detailing skills are valuable assets to the team.
Martin joined Barker Associates in 2016 and is a senior surveyor in the projects team. With 23 years’ experience in surveying and facilities management, Martin specialises in design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial and private clients.
Mitchell is a Building Surveyor in the projects team. He specialises in contract administration and project management of refurbishment, extension and new-build construction projects to education, commercial sectors and private clients. Barker Associates is supporting his training towards chartered status.
Nathan is a trainee surveyor in the building surveying projects team. He assists with condition surveys, professional services, project specifications and production of design information. He has a keen eye for detail and supports the wider team on a multitude of commissions within the educational, public sector and residential sector. Nathan is pursuing his RICS Building Surveying Degree at Anglia Ruskin University on a part time basis.
Patrycja has a degree in Interior Architecture and Design. She specialises in creating bespoke solutions to achieve the right atmosphere and branding for each project, using AutoCAD, Photoshop and SketchUp to produce two and three dimensional work to clearly communicate design proposals.
Rashpal joined Barker Associates at our Birmingham office in 2019; he is a building surveyor in the projects team. He specialises in providing condition surveys, project management and contract administration to commercial, educational and healthcare clients. His experience includes various refurbishment works to industrial offices, retail outlets and capital healthcare projects.
Rick is a very experienced architect with an extensive portfolio of work covering a broad range of public and private sector commissions, including schools, libraries, residential development, business units, hotels, heritage projects, master planning and even a climbing barn. His education portfolio includes a number of successful PFI secondary school projects, his design for The Lammas School in Leyton being featured in Building Bulletin 95 Schools for the Future.
Robbie is a Building Surveyor in the projects team. He specialises in contract administration and project management of refurbishment, extension and new-build construction projects to education, commercial and private clients. Robbie is currently studying to achieve his RICS Chartership, with Barker Associates supporting his training towards this qualification.
Simon joined Barker Associates in 2018. Simon is a highly efficient CAD Engineer Technician with a comprehensive understanding of computer aided design and BIM. Simon assists our Associate Partner l Structural Engineer in the preparation of general arrangements and detail drawings.
Stephen joined Barker Associates in 2017 and is a Senior Quantity Surveyor in the projects team. With over 30 years of experience Stephen specialises in providing cost planning, procurement, final account negotiation and employer’s agent services for ecclesiastical, education and commercial clients.
Stephen joined Barker Associates in April 2018 and is fulfilling a dual role of Quantity Surveyor/Building Surveyor in the Building Surveying Project Team. Stephen has experience within the Housing and Public Sectors, with particular focus on Framework, Measured Term and Serial Contracts on large Housing Refurbishment Schemes. He is currently working across the Building Surveying and Quantity Surveying departments assisting on a variety of commissions and projects for Education and Commercial clients.
Thomas joined Barker Associates in 2018 as a Quantity Surveyor in the Projects team. Thomas specialises in cost reporting, valuation and procurement matters for commercial, education and local authority clients. Thomas is currently studying to become a Chartered member of the RICS.
Thomas is a Trainee Building Surveyor in the projects team. He provides technical assistance to senior members of staff delivering projects and professional surveying work. Thomas is currently studying building surveying at Anglia Ruskin University and Barker Associates support training towards his degree qualification.

Formed in 2008, the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) is the largest multi-sponsor of academies in the UK. Barker Associates has worked with the Trust from the outset providing strategic advice in assisting it with its short and long-term facilities’ management needs, ensuring its sites are suitable and safe learning environments, and that its facilities management function is run efficiently and effectively.
As a Multi-Academy-Trust, the AET is allocated funding from the Government for its facilities management. It is the responsibility of Barker Associates to work with the trust, to identify where and how this money can be spent on building stock based on condition surveys and needs analysis.

One of the trust’s corporate aims is to “Deliver high quality, value for money support services.” The relationship we have nurtured and maintained with the trust since the outset is testament to the success of the partnership in helping them achieve this corporate aim.
Our collaborative working won us the PFM Partners in Consultancy Award. The Judges noted that ‘Barker Associates has enabled the AET to reduce in numbers to be more efficient and focus on spending where it is required for schools and their pupils. They also batch work on properties to make it more cost effective. We saw an impressive example of the parties working together and delivering significant improvements as and when funding permitted.’
