Belfairs Academy provides a “culture of excellence” in education and strives to help every pupil develop and take advantage of all opportunities that are presented. To continue with the academy’s vision for growth and supporting their students, an expansion of the existing site was required.
Barker were appointed to deliver the expansion of Belfairs Academy after a successful, competitive tendering process. Our multi-disciplinary team of architects, quantity surveyors, project managers and designers were instructed to undertake internal remodelling of the existing educational building and construct a new 3 storey teaching block to provide improved and extended gymnasium and weights areas, ancillary storage and teaching rooms
Barker were able to successfully navigate the challenge of keeping the school open and in use whilst delivering a £7m construction project.
Using their vast educational experience, Barker designed the new extension developing an under-utilised part of the site connecting the existing sports facilities with the rest of the school buildings. The central atrium space uses link bridges to connect the extension and the school at all three levels, providing easy circulation and a seamless link with the rest of the school. The project was completed as per programme and within budget.
The new block has granted the school a new modern and spacious teaching environment that will accommodate an additional 300 pupils on site. As well as providing additional educational space, the project has improved the circulation and flow while unifying teaching areas around the school.
