Overview
The Market Field School is a SEND educational facility for pupils with moderate learning difficulties. It’s based in Elmstead Market, Essex which is near Colchester. They offer an outstanding specialist provision for pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) for children aged 5-16.
The Challenges
The project faced tight budgets and short delivery timescales, and the school site itself had limited space.
The Solution
Barker worked closely with client stakeholders to establish a detailed brief and feasibility study with fully costed design options, offering a variety of solutions.
The final scheme was chosen as it maximised the retained outdoor space and created a valuable covered outdoor area. The solution was to provide a highly buildable design with excellent value for money, whilst minimising the impact of ongoing operations to the school during construction.
The project was successfully completed and handed over in Autumn 2020.
