Stuart joined Barker in 1996 and has been Managing Partner since 2007. He is responsible for leading the management team to ensure the efficient operation and growth of the practice.
Stuart has experience across all core building surveying areas and sectors and now specialises in project management of major schemes.
An education specialist, Stuart helps identify needs, secure funding and deliver construction projects for schools, academies, further and higher education establishments. He also specialises in providing strategic advice to Multi Academy Trusts on estates and facilities management. His expertise in this area was recognised when Barker won the Premises and Facilities Management award for Partners in Consultancy in 2015.
Robert joined Barker in 2002 and is a partner heading up our projects and conservation teams. A Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, he is responsible for design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial, ecclesiastical and private clients.
An education specialist, he provides the following services: estate planning, planned maintenance programmes, feasibility studies, project management of new build and refurbishment schemes, condition surveys, and funding applications.
As a certified historic buildings professional he provides conservation consultancy for private and municipal clients, advises on conservation strategies and designs, specifies and implements works on listed and historic buildings.
Robert also has experience in management of insurance-backed reinstatement works and disaster recovery. He is a health and safety advisor and principal designer under the CDM Regulations.
Michael joined Barker in 1998, achieving partner status in 2010. He manages a team of surveyors heading up a key part of our educational sector as well as wider management duties across the practice.
An experienced chartered surveyor, Michael has a hands-on role in the design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial and private clients.
With the majority of his professional life spent working in the education sector Michael is an education specialist delivering projects from inception to completion including: feasibility/development planning, identifying funding streams, bid writing, project management of new build and refurbishment schemes and condition surveys/works.
Will joined Barker in 2003 and is a partner heading up the project management, cost consultancy and commercial team. Will became a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2000 and has over twenty years’ relevant experience across all sectors of the construction industry. He is responsible for overseeing project management on all major schemes.
Previous project management experience includes major medical facilities, university buildings in Cambridge, aircraft facilities and extensive experience in educational buildings.
Will works with a cross section of clients from private individuals through to development companies and commercial organisations to provide project management services on new developments and opportunities.
Will is a principal designer under the CDM regulations and provides guidance and support for colleagues regarding health and safety on projects.
James joined Barker in 2004 and is a chartered surveyor in the projects team. James specialises in design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial and private clients. James has specific expertise in securing funding and the delivery of education projects, he also has NEBOSH training as a Fire Risk Assessor.
John joined Barker in 2016, he is a Partner and is responsible for a variety of Projects and Delivery, Client Development, Framework Management, Staff Management and Strategic Planning for the Practice.
A Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and Construction Manager with over 30 years’ experience in the Professional Construction Consultancy Sector, John works across sectors specialising in Education, Residential, Leisure and Corporate Municipal Buildings.
With specialist knowledge of the Public and Education Sectors John brings a wealth of Technical and Strategic Advisory experience to the Practice offering the following services; Building Surveying, Design and Specification, Project Management, Programme Management, Building Defect Analysis, Business Development and Account Management.
John has also undertaken Programme and Budget Management for key Clients in relation to their portfolio of Assets ranging from planned maintenance strategies through to advising on the delivery and funding of new facilities.
Barry joined Barker in 2019. He is an Associate Partner heading our London office team on delivering Building Surveying, Professional Services, Procurement and Project Management.
Barry’s experience covers a wide range of work and sectors, bringing particular experience to the practice of commercial clients, development work and the education sector. Barry has worked extensively in Frameworks and Funding within the education sector and successfully undertaken multi million pound commercial and educational projects.
Tom joined Barker in 2020. He is an Associate Partner based in our London office. Tom has over 15 years of experience in a strategic and technical advisory capacity working with a wide variety of clients across the UK.
As a Chartered Building Surveyor with extensive knowledge of the public and education sectors, Tom brings a wealth of experience to the Practice including Project and Programme Management, Technical Due Diligence, Procurement Management, Strategic Estates Advisory Services, FM & Statutory Compliance, Estates Data Management and Funding Advice.
Tom’s key focus is to support Barker’s education team with further expansion into the Higher, Further Education and Independent Schools sectors by support clients in achieving their own business objectives.
Dan is an engineer and construction manager and heads up our Birmingham Office. He spent the eight years prior to joining Barker managing the Building Schools for the Future (BSF), Additional Pupil Places (APP) and Special School Additional Places (SSAP) capital delivery programmes for Birmingham City Council and has and in-depth knowledge of estate planning in the education sector. He is knowledgeable on funding streams and bid management and has built and managed multi-disciplinary consultancy teams for large scale programmes. An accomplished project and programme manager, he has overseen complex construction projects across multiple sectors on both client and contractor sides.
David joined Barker in 2017 and is a chartered surveyor in the projects team. David specialises in project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new builds to clients in education, commercial sectors and private clients.
Edwin has over 15 years extensive experience in delivering built environment and sustainability services across the planning, development and building occupation lifecycles of major public sector education and commercial estates.
As an Energy & Sustainability specialist with extensive knowledge of the public and education sectors, Edwin brings a wealth of experience to the Practice including Energy Policy & Strategy, Carbon Reduction & Energy Efficiency Measures, Project and Programme Management, BREEAM Accredited Professional, Sustainable Design Advisor and Energy Efficiency Project Funding Advice.
Philippa joined Barker in 2009 and is a Chartered Surveyor and RICS Certified Historic Building Professional.
Philippa specialises in design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes for public sector, education, commercial, ecclesiastical and private clients.
As a Certified Historic Buildings Professional she provides conservation consultancy for private and municipal clients, advises on conservation strategies and works to listed and historic buildings.
As a member of Ecclesiastical Architects & Surveyors Association (EASA) she gives advice to ecclesiastical clients and diocesan bodies on repair, maintenance and alteration to church buildings as well as assisting with applications for grant funding.
Adam is a surveyor in the projects team. Adam specialises in maintenance projects of residential buildings and educational establishments acting as contract administrator and principal designer. He also assists with access audits and fire assessments along with various other maintenance based surveys. Adam is currently studying for his RICS chartership.
Adam joined Barker as a graduate Building Surveyor in 2019. He specialises in Condition Surveys, Schedules of Condition and various other core surveying services across residential, educational and commercial sectors. Adam is working towards his RICS chartership.
Adrian joined Barker in 2017 and is a senior surveyor in the projects team. Adrian specialises in contract administration and project management. His extensive experience covers a range of public sector projects including schools, universities, constabulary and fire and rescue services.
Ben is a Chartered Building Surveyor in the Projects team. He undertakes a range of Projects where he delivers Building Surveying, Design, Specification, Contract Administration and Project Management Services working on a variety of Education, Commercial and Public Sector projects. Ben’s experience includes developing capital funding bids for Education Clients, delivering a range of services to Public Sector Clients including Emergency Services clients.
Calum is a graduate building surveyor in the projects team. He provides technical assistance to senior members of staff delivering construction projects and professional surveying work. Barker is supporting his training towards chartered status.
Cem joined Barker in 2002 and is a building surveyor in the projects team. Cem specialises in design, project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new-build schemes in the education and private sectors.
David joined Barker in 2020. He is a Building Services Technical Manager based in our Head Office in Braintree. David has over 15 years of experience in managing the installation and commissioning of building services installation, ensuring high standards of workmanship and compliance are achieved. As Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology he has extensive working knowledge of technical standards and practical application. David uses this experience to support our clients in technical assurance, project management and design assurance for both simple and complex building services installation projects.
Edward joined Barker in 2020. He is a Chartered Building Surveyor based in our London office. Edward specialises in design, specification and contract administration of education, commercial and historic building projects. As part of the project team Edward delivers technical services on our education and commercial commissions including technical due diligence, project management, condition and PPM surveys, feasibility studies and occupier focused dilapidations.
Geoff was one of Barker Associates’ founding partners in 1987 and has over thirty years’ experience in all core building surveying services. His career commenced in municipal design and contract administration within a local authority setting. Geoff now conducts professional services across all sectors within the survey team with expertise in party wall and boundary matters. Geoff regularly acts as an expert witness for litigation purposes.
Giorgio joined Barker in 2020. He is a building surveyor in our projects team based in Birmingham. Giorgio specialises in contract administration and project management of refurbishment, extension and new-build construction projects to education, commercial sectors and private clients.
Guy joined Barker Associates in 2017 as a building surveyor in the projects team. With 10 years’ experience across social housing, commercial and retail sectors Guy’s expertise ranges from delivering maintenance lifecycle estimates, stock condition surveys, reinstatement and planned maintenance project works from inception to completion. Guy’s experience also includes small scale project management services and refurbishment works for retail outlets, assisting with project fund monitoring, acquisition surveys and delivery of dilapidation surveys.
As part of our London based team Jack provides technical assistance to our team by delivering professional surveying and project work to our commercial and education clients. Jack is currently working towards his APC qualification with Barker supporting him in his training to become chartered.
Jack is a Trainee Building Surveyor working alongside our projects team in Birmingham. Jack provides technical support and assistance to other members of staff delivering projects and professional surveying work. Jack is currently studying towards his Building Surveying Degree at Wolverhampton University on a part time basis and Barker are supporting his training providing both practical experience and support in his studies.
James joined Barker in 2019. He is a Chartered building surveyor in the projects team. James specialises in the education sector assisting schools and Multi Academy Trust clients with compliance, Condition Improvement Funding and School Condition Allocation advice, applications and project management of new and refurbishment projects.
James is a Building Surveyor working within our projects team in Braintree. James specialises in design, specification and contract administration for a range of clients in the education and commercial sectors. James delivers technical services on our commissions including technical due diligence, project management, condition surveys, party wall, dilapidations and feasibility studies. He also supports education clients with specific funding bids.

John is a Senior Building Surveyor in the projects team based in Cambridge. Jordan is a building surveyor in our projects team based in Birmingham. With over 5 years of experience across commercial, educational and healthcare sectors, Jordan’s expertise ranges from condition surveys, contract administration, reinstatement and project management of new build, office fit-outs and refurbishment projects.
Marcus joined Barker Associates in 2018 and is a surveyor in the projects team. Marcus specialises in project management and contract administration of refurbishment and new builds to clients in education, commercial sectors and private clients.
Mark joined Barker in 2019 and is a surveyor in the projects team. Mark has specific expertise in funding streams and bid management. His experience includes assisting schools and Multi Academy Trust clients with Condition Improvement Funding, School Condition Allocation advice and Project Management of new and refurbishment projects. Mark has a first class degree in Building Surveying and is an Association of Proposal Management (AMPM) Foundation Certificate Member.
Mitchell is a Building Surveyor in the projects team. He specialises in contract administration and project management of refurbishment, extension and new-build construction projects to education, commercial sectors and private clients. Barker Associates is supporting his training towards chartered status.
Nathan is a trainee surveyor in the building surveying projects team. He assists with condition surveys, professional services, project specifications and production of design information. He has a keen eye for detail and supports the wider team on a multitude of commissions within the educational, public sector and residential sector. Nathan is pursuing his RICS Building Surveying Degree at Anglia Ruskin University on a part time basis.
Neil joined Barker Associates in 2017 and is a Senior Surveyor in the projects team. With over 25 years of experience in Building Surveying, Neil specialises in design, project management and contract administration for refurbishment and new build schemes for public sector, education, commercial and private clients.
Robbie is a Building Surveyor in the projects team. He specialises in contract administration and project management of refurbishment, extension and new-build construction projects to education, commercial and private clients. Robbie is currently studying to achieve his RICS Chartership, with Barker Associates supporting his training towards this qualification.
As part of our Cambridge team Samuel delivers professional surveying and project work including initial design, contract administration, specification of works, tender documents and supervision of construction phase to our clients. Samuel has a particular focus in the education sector assisting Academies and Trusts with compliance, funding applications and refurbishment projects.
Scott joined Barker in 2015 and is a building surveyor in the projects team. He provides technical assistance to senior members of staff delivering construction projects and professional surveying work. Scott recently completed his Building Surveying Degree with First Class Honours. Barker will be supporting his training towards RICS chartered status.
Simi is a building surveyor in our projects team based in London. She specialises in contract administration and project management of refurbishment, extension and new-build construction projects to commercial, education and private clients. Simi is currently working towards her RICS Chartership.
Stephen is a Chartered Building Surveyor with over 18 years' experience in all core building surveying services across education, residential and commercial sectors. His expertise extends to professional services including dilapidations, market valuation, pre-acquistion reports for residential and commercial clients.
Stephen joined Barker Associates in April 2018 and is fulfilling a dual role of Quantity Surveyor/Building Surveyor in the Building Surveying Project Team. Stephen has experience within the Housing and Public Sectors, with particular focus on Framework, Measured Term and Serial Contracts on large Housing Refurbishment Schemes. He is currently working across the Building Surveying and Quantity Surveying departments assisting on a variety of commissions and projects for Education and Commercial clients.
Thomas is a Trainee Quantity/Building Surveyor in the projects team. He provides technical assistance to senior members of staff delivering projects and professional surveying work. Thomas is currently studying quantity surveying at Anglia Ruskin University with Barker supporting training towards his degree qualification.
